Books In Sync Announces Author J.R. Hauptman And His New Genre “Guy Books”

Quote: “Strong Men Who Love Strong Women”.

Author’s Bio:

J. R. Hauptman has been a professional pilot for nearly a half century. Barely twenty years old, he began as a military pilot and for almost two years, he flew combat support missions in the Viet Nam War. Upon leaving military service, he was hired by a major airline and was initially based on the West Coast. His flying career was interrupted by the turmoil that racked the airline industry during the early days of deregulation. In the interim, he worked as a travel agent, as a stock broker and even trained dogs and horses. In the late nineteen-eighties, he returned to aviation, flying jet charters and air freight. He concluded his career flying corporate jets and now lives in Florida. He is completing his second work, a non-fictional social commentary and surfs every day, waves or not.

Books In Sync Honors & Appreciates Author J. R. Hauptman’s Service To His Country In The United States Military.

The Target: Love, Death and Airline Deregulation by J. R. Hauptman

“THE TARGET” is set in the late nineteen-eighties and tells the tale of the tumultuous first years of airline deregulation and the shocking effects it had on that industry and the people who worked there.

In those days, Carlo Clemenza is known as the most hated man in the airline business. A dedicated corporate raider and union buster, Clemenza uses junk bonds, uncompromising Soviet styled negotiation tactics, sham bankruptcies and ruthless abrogation of union contracts to crush competing airlines and to bring airline workers to heel. His methods have earned him countless death threats yet he struts with arrogance, surrounded by cadres of security toughs.

Virtually thousands of professional pilots find themselves compelled to start their careers over or find them at a sudden and complete end. The airline grapevine echoes daily with the plaintive cry, “Why doesn’t someone kill that SOB?!”

Only one pilot decides to seriously take up the cudgel and he makes Carlo Clemenza THE TARGET! His chase will take him to the far corners of the country as he finds himself also the object of pursuit.

The characters merge in spectacular action and settings in “THE TARGET; Love, Death and Airline Deregulation.”

Two Reviews Selected From Many:

Full of twists and turns, The Target is a detailed and well constructed thriller that gives the reader a fuller understanding of the changes brought by the deregulation of the airline industry in the 1980s. I couldn’t help but sympathize with Ivan and his colleagues – I hadn’t understood the full impact of airline deregulation.

This was a great way to gain insight into that period while enjoying a fast paced thriller. I found The Target a fun and fascinating read.”

“An entertaining adventure of karma and men pushed to the edge!

Sometimes there are people so utterly despicable and hate-worthy that they just need killing. “The Target: Love, Death, and Airline Deregulation” is the story of Carlo Clemenza, the most despised man in the airline industry. Everyone who works under him comes to hate him with all their being, wishing death upon him. There is one pilot, however, who is willing to do more than just wish.

“The Target” is an entertaining adventure of karma and men pushed to the edge, recommended.

The Target: Love, Death and Airline Deregulation by J. R. Hauptman

Books In Sync Announces Literary Fiction Author Behcet Kaya

Headline: Voice of Conscience by Behcet Kaya

Biography:

Author Behcet Kaya, in his first novel Voice of Conscience, transports his readers to the land of his birth, bringing to life all of the sights, sounds, and smells of a place steeped in centuries of tradition and exacting customs. Calling upon his own life experiences, he weaves a story of love and revenge that plays itself out on three continents.

Behcet was born in northeastern Turkey. Growing up in a very small village with long held traditions, his rebellious nature emerged at an early age. By the time he was ten, he had read, in secret, all of the Turkish translated stories of Mike Hammer. In addition, he read several of Dale Carnage’s works, and all of Yashar Kemal’s novels. His world burst out beyond that of his small village and he yearned for a more western way of life.

Defying his father, who wanted him to remain in the village to work and support his large family, Behcet left home at fourteen and travelled first to Istanbul and soon, on to London. In London his obsession was to complete his high school education and then a college degree in engineering. He supported himself by working full-time and earning scholarships from Inner London Education Authority. His long held belief was that, to earn an honorable and respectable living, he must complete his engineering degree and that no other employment would suffice. His creative side, however, began emerging when his drama and literature teacher cast him in a play in which his performance awed the audience. His insatiable appetite for literature widened to include the classics of Dickens, D.H. Lawrence, and the Russian masters.

While at Hatfield Polytechnic, Behcet made his first visit to the US as an exchange student with the British Universities North American Club. Behcet made the move to the US in 1976 and became a US citizen in 1985. While living in Atlanta, Georgia, he followed his creative yearnings, attending the Alliance Theater School and studying at the SAG Conservatory of Georgia, which earned him his Screen Actors Guild card. In 1994, Kaya and his wife moved to Los Angeles, where he continued his studies at the Roby Theater Company and the Shakespeare, A Noise Within Theater Workshop.

Along with acting, writing became a natural outlet for his creative yearnings. He has published several short stories and is currently working on two novels; one a sequel to Voice of Conscience, the other a story of a naval officer.

This is a memorable read! G. A. Bixler for IP Book Reviews March 2009 Behcet Kaya has planned out his story well and the characters are vivid throughout. Enter into Ramzi’s world, where the soul is consumed by the dark clouds of a painful and unforgettable past – where nothing can soothe the savage beast within. Martha Jette Author/Editor July 2008 Voice of Conscience is a compelling drama with the author incorporating the traits of a Shakespearean Tragedy very successfully. It is highly recommended to readers who enjoy compelling stories of human frailty. Tracy Roberts for Write Field Services March 2008 Voice of Conscience is a strong first novel, timely and challenging. Voice of Conscience by Behcet Kaya

Authorhouse

978-1-4490-1453-7

Author Behcet Kaya draws on his vast knowledge of Turkish and Muslim customs and traditions, captivating his audience from the first chapter. We first meet the Ozcomert familyin Atamkoy, Turkey in 1962: Ramzi Sr., his wife, Nermin, their beautiful daughter, Erin, and son, Ramzi Jr. The scene is set for a traditional wedding when Erin is engaged to Turkel with both families’ blessing. The elder from the rival Korucu family has decided that he will have Erin marry his grandson. When Ramzi Sr. turns the elder Korucu down, it brings shame to the Korucu clan and soon several of the Ozcomert livestock are slaughtered. Fearing increased violence, the wedding date is moved up.

Ramzi Jr. is awakened in the night by his cousin and aunt and soon learns the horrible truth that will haunt him for the rest of his life – his father, mother, and sister have been murdered in their sleep. Ramzi travels to Istanbul and finds work in construction as he attempts to build a life for himself. Memories of the night his family was murdered continue to disturb him, as does his paranoia that his enemies will find him and kill him as well.

In England, Ramzi is studying for his engineering degree and working as a waiter. He meets Megan, a wealthy, sophisticated American. They fall in love, move to the United States, marry, and begin a family of their own. Ramzi has it all – a beautiful wife, children and a very successful business…however, he can’t cast off the nightmare of his past. Not even the love of his wife and daughters, and his place in the business community are enough to keep Ramzi from seeking to quench his thirst for revenge. This desperate need to avenge his murdered family gradually destroys everything he has worked so hard to obtain.

Kaya has crafted an epic story with an intriguing plot filled with plenty of drama, tension and conflict, wonderful character development and crisp dialogue. As well, there are beautiful moments of joy, wonder, and romance. Whether in a Turkish village, London, or the U.S., he puts us right there with vivid sensory descriptions and strong, scene-setting narrative.

Kaya’s talent for storytelling is evident on every page and it is easy to forget that Voice of Conscience is his first novel. Frequently, I was shaking my head in shock, laughing at his humor, and moved by a sad passage all in the same chapter. I highly recommend this riveting tale and I look forward to reading more from the author.

Voice of Conscience by Behcet Kaya

Books In Sync Announces Historical Literary Fiction Author J. A. Hunsinger

Author’s Bio:

J. A. Hunsinger lives in Colorado, USA, with his wife Phyllis. He writes and promotes fulltime. Vinland Publishing published the first novel of his character-driven, historical fiction series, Axe of Iron: The Settlers on August 1, 2008. The second book of the series, ‘Axe of Iron: Confrontation’, will be released in December 2009. The other four books of the series will follow annually.

Although he has long been a writer, much of his adult life has been associated with commercial aviation, both in and out of the cockpit. As an Engineering Technical Writer for Honeywell Commercial Flight Systems Group, Phoenix, AZ, he authored two comprehensive pilots’ manuals on aircraft computer guidance systems and several supplemental aircraft radar manuals. His manuals have been published and distributed worldwide to airline operators by Honeywell Engineering, Phoenix, AZ. His first published work for the general public, Flight Into Danger, appeared in Flying Magazine, (August 2002). Many of his articles have been featured in other periodicals and websites or are featured on his blog.

After his flying career ended on his 60th birthday, he found himself with time to continue his writing; this first novel was actually begun more than twenty years ago. He attended many writing classes and seminars, but couldn’t sustain a head of steam as a writer. All of that changed abruptly in 2004, when he remarried. Phyllis provided the necessary push and as a result he treated writing as work, which it most certainly is.

Writing is a learned craft. In order to learn to write, you must write. Eventually the classes must be set aside; set a daily work schedule and stick to it. That is not to say you should stop taking classes altogether; learning is a lifetime experience. Sooner or later though, you must take the plunge and go at it on your own.

Have a story to tell, one that you like. Then sit down and get busy. Have your work professionally edited: rewrite, edit, rewrite, until you’ve gotten it as good as it can be.

That’s all there is to being a writer.

Featuring Book One In The Axe of Iron Series

Axe of Iron: The Settlers by J.A. Hunsinger

Axe of Iron: The Settlers is a tale about a medieval people whose lives are surprisingly like ours. They have the same basic desires for happiness, love, food, and shelter that has dominated the thoughts of generations of cultures the world over.

On Greenland, Eirik the Red established Eiriksfjord in 986 and later Lysufjord, four hundred miles to the north. Just 22-years later, new settlers from the homelands found all the best land already occupied and the fragile Arctic environment strained by too many people and animals on too little arable land.

This first novel is a continuing, character-driven story of a company of men, women, and children whose wanderlust and yearning for adventure cause them to leave the two established settlements on Greenland and sail west, to the unexplored land later to be referred to as Vinland. Under the capable leadership of Halfdan Ingolfsson and his lieutenant, Gudbjartur Einarsson, these 315 adventuresome souls set sail from Greenland in the spring of 1008 determined to establish a new home across the western ocean.

Standing in their way are uncounted numbers of indigenous people, the pre-historical ancestors of the Cree (Naskapi), Ojibwa (Anishinabeg), and Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Indians. From the outset, these native people strenuously resist the incursion of these tall, pale-skinned invaders.

Two calamitous events occur that pave the way for the hostile beginnings of an assimilation process to occur between these disparate peoples. The way is rocky and fraught with danger at every turn, but the acceptance and friendship that develops between the Northmen and the Naskapi over an affair of honor, the eventual acceptance of a young boy of the Northmen by his Haudenosaunee captors, and a scenario that seems ordained by the will of the gods, makes it all begin to fall into place, as it must for the Northmen to survive.

Axe of Iron: The Settlers by J.A. Hunsinger

Books In Sync Announces Littluns Author Mark Glamack

Featuring: Littluns: And The Book Of Darkness – A Book For The Entire Family!

Biography:

Mark Glamack is an animator, businessman, director, producer, writer, and patented inventor. He has worked in every area of the animation industry. Over the last twelve years he has created, written, and developed two motion picture projects and a television series. Also, he invented (Scoreguide) which doubles as a marketing tool that brings commerce to the golfer and the golfer to commerce. It also provides low cost advertising for the Dot-Com market.

From 2000 to 2003, Glamack dedicated full time developing a new means for reversing runaway productions. This new process and invention blends a far-reaching business model with the technology that supports it.

From his early beginnings at Walt Disney Productions, Glamack experienced a level of quality unprecedented in the industry and the attention to details needed to achieve it. While there, he worked on the animated classic “The Jungle Book and animated many of the special effects for the combination live-action/animation “Bed-Knobs and Broomsticks.” He also worked on the EPCOT promotional film, animation inserts for “The Wonderful World of Disney,” and “The Story of Walt Disney,” a Disneyland attraction.

In 1999 he was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Special Class-Animated Program for “Life with Louie.”

Drafted out of Disney to serve in the Viet Nam War, Glamack spent a year as a medic with the First Air Cavalry Division based thirty miles from the DMZ. While in Viet Nam, he photographed and directed an ambitious documentary entitled, “Is Freedom Just a Word?” He was awarded the Bronze Star.

In 2003, Glamack completed his sixth elected term as Governor for The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Appointed by the President as Vice-Chair for the ATAS Activities Committee 1991 – 1992. Served on the Budget, Awards, and Membership Committees.

Born and raised in Rochester, New York, Glamack attended Art Center College of Design, UCLA, PCC, Sherwood Oaks Experimental College and various animation courses.

Mark Glamack’s philosophy includes the belief that future business successes in the entertainment industries will depend largely upon our abilities to compete on a global level through competitive production costs. “Also, we need to positively motivate, educate, enlighten, and inspire through entertaining content with more positive celebration to the human spirit.”

Having stated the above, I assure all of you that I’m not here to sell anybody anything I wouldn’t buy myself. If you do buy “Littluns,” I hope that it will touch your heart as it has for countless other readers. I only included it here as an introduction of what is important in my life.

I’m here because of what Christ’s truth, love, hope, joy, enlightenment, and hearts desire have brought into my life, and hopefully I can contribute a little something to yours.

Littluns – A Book For The Entire Family!

Imagine innocence of Light, the meek and good among us being unexpectedly consumed into a void of darkness.

Imagine a world gone wrong as darkness overwhelms the Light – offering little hope in a world gone wrong.

Imagine circumstances beyond your control from which your life will inexplicably never ever be the same.

Imagine being stripped of your identity with no past, present, or future while wandering misplaced with a tortured disability and terrifying existence, within an empty space of nothingness.

What could you do – where would you go – how might you survive – can there be any hope in hopelessness?

Imagine being in such a dark place and how you might find ANY truth, peace, love, hope, joy, enlightenment, and your heart’s desire in the face of such adversity?

First and foremost, Never, Ever Give Up…

Beyond that can only be found in “Littluns.”……

Secret to the rest of the world is the protected, self contained, pure and peaceful valley of Hollow Hills. The outside world below holds little interest to Littluns. It’s not that they don’t know about such things and what goes on out there; they know very well about the chaos and discord and the importance of remaining removed from such things. However, once every year or two, the Town Council selects five of its citizens to journey down Powder Mountain into the outside world. It’s a scavenger hunt. The only rules are that anything they bring back must not belong to anyone. No one ever worries about the rules because every Littlun is taught, from a very young age, that stealing is wrong and no Littlun would ever consider such an act – it just wouldn t be Littlun. Now, it should be noted that this is not just any outing. It is very dangerous and requires much skill and knowledge. The journey down the mountain is treacherous. No one looks forward to being selected, but each accepts the responsibility in the knowledge that they are fulfilling a community obligation. This is one of those days for a scavenger hunt. …and nothing will ever be the same.

Book Description:

LITTLUNS: and the book of darkness is an epic animated, fantasy, mythological adventure, and journey into a volatile unknown that will stir the reader’s every emotion while presenting real-life examples that everyone can relate to. It is a story of extreme good and innocence in a world of chaos from the resulting seductive effects of evil. It clearly defines the differences and becomes the family friendly alternative. If readers are looking for a different reading experience that will keep them on the edge of their seats, and then touch their heart, they’ll find it in LITTLUNS: and the book of darkness.

Littluns: And The Book Of Darkness – by Mark Glamack

Books In Sync Announces Mystery Thriller Novelist Steven Nedelton

Crossroads by Steven Nedelton

Author’s Short Biography:

Steven Nedelton began writing short stories in his teens. He wrote his first novel, ‘Fear Factor’, in the late 90s. ‘Crossroads’ is his new, published, novel. ‘The Raven Affair’, also under contract with Asylett Press, is scheduled to be released by the end of 2009. He is presently working on his fourth novel, ‘Tunnel’, and finishing ‘Fear Factor’.

He lived for several years in Paris, France and London, England and is able to draw from his experiences living abroad to add realistic description of these locales and characters in his novels.

Steven holds a MSME from the PIB (PINY)/NYC and was a P.E. in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He has Roman ancestry like Italians.

Headline: Crossroads by Steven Nedelton

“Four guards and a large Siberian dog surround him. The chase car is still flashing red. A Mongol with a flat yellow face and shovel-like incisors is holding his passport and visa. The guard’s Russian is hard to understand; his English is impossible. “My car stalled, I’m a tourist,” he is explaining in his bad Russian to the Mongol. The guard laughs, shows off his incisors, then pokes him in the chest with his gloved forefinger. “You play poker. You, you–capitalist spy,” he says in his best English.”

“My dear, dear, friend,” Sokolov started his missive, and continued with…I am sure that by the time you read my letter you will have already had a few friendly dinners with our mutual acquaintance, Burly. I know he likes to talk a lot and I apologize for his often crude manners. But let us leave him the way he is. We cannot change people, their habits. Both of us know that well. And quite often we have to forgive them their little shortcomings. So, back to the business, as the Americans say.

I believe that you have already expressed an interest in my little venture, at least Burly indicated so in our recent telephone conversation. However, I have an additional little request for you. It may appear a bit odd, but please do try to understand my position. I am quite sure you know that I have never believed in seances and the like. Meaning, I can hardly believe in my own existence, never mind something ‘supernatural.’ Be it as it may, my old mother had several ‘experiences’—how should I word it—‘visual encounters,’ perhaps, with my dead brother. He died in the Great War. You cannot imagine how happy she felt, my poor, dear, old mother. So she asked me—can you imagine?—to get in contact with a reliable medium—I believe that is what they call such people—and have them try to get in touch with my dead brother to find out what he wanted to tell her. I am sure that in a big city like Paris there must be a few of those.

That is why I decided to contact you for help. The problem is, he or she would have to talk to my mother directly—she will not have it any other way—and tell her the details…”

“Crossroads is an international spy thriller with an intriguing plot that twists and turns thus engaging the interest of the reader till the final page. It contains an array of interesting characters ranging from the bottom of the food chain like Mme Benoit, an excop turned killer for hire Hans Polf to the top Russian Special Operations boss Sergey Sokolov. In this spy game no one is spared, no one is indispensable. It’s how each character meets his/her end that makes the plot suspenseful and satisfying as a spy thriller. The plot flits back and forth, from the United States, to Russia and to France giving it an international flair. Steven Nedelton has a flair for details – a good example is how the fallen Volkov stalked Solkolov to have his revenge. Time and time again, Nedelton painstakingly builds up a scene before the violence erupted, giving the plot suspense and visual detail. He has a keen eye for details.

A good read for a lazy day at home.”

“Reminiscent of John Le Carre with a dash of Ian Flemming, Steven Nedelton’s Crossroads plunges us deep into the complicated and not yet thawed Cold War mindpower experimentations and its dubious dark characters that once inhabited that volatile underworld. Written with an uncanny knack for plot and time-shifting, this 21st century thriller also introduces us to 20 th century CIA Agent David Tallman, the main character who possesses depth, passion and, in the grand tradition of Hemingway at his best, more than his fair share of tragedy and wickedness. An unusually multi-layered and absorbing novel, Crossroads will be and should be read by thriller and spy novel enthusiasts all over the globe.” Reviewed by: Vincent Zandri – author of ‘As Catch Can’ and the forthcoming ‘Moonlight Falls’.

I thought there was plenty of punch in your writing. Looks like you’ve done lots of research to make it authentic. Well done. Do you like Robert Goddard? His early stuff is a great benchmark. Cheers, Leo

Books In Sync Announces Dead Of Knight By Award Winning Author William R. Potter

DEAD of KNIGHT Is A Jack Staal Mystery:

Your next birthday could be murder!

Believing he is a soldier of justice, a misguided young man begins a callous campaign of terror murdering women on their birthdays. Convinced of his righteousness he continues his brutal crusade forcing the citizens of Hanson B.C. to acknowledge a serial killer active in their rural community.

The Mounties always get their man…but not if Jack Staal gets him first!

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police put their Integrated Homicide Investigation Teams into action. Detective Jack Staal and the rest of Hanson PD are invited to support the RCMP. However, Staal, the once elite major-crime investigator reduced to small-town detective is desperate for redemption. He ignores protocol to work a case that is not his to solve.

Told from the perspective of both killer and cop DEAD of KNIGHT is a cat and mouse thriller sure to delight fans of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta or Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch.

The First Review:

Author William R. Potter takes the reader into the heart and soul of his protagonist and into the warped mind of a psychopath. Potter’s first full length novel, Dead of Knight is told from the point-of-view of Detective Jack Staal and from the perspective of a killer who murders women on their birthdays.

Through clever use of back story, we learn that Detective Staal is suffering from post-traumatic stress after a horrific shooting. Unable to shake the horror of that day, Staal has left his position with the Vancouver PD’s homicide squad and has resurrected his career with the police service in a fictional country town called Hanson, British Columbia.

Anxious to work the biggest case of his career, Staal is forced to the outside when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Integrated Homicide Teams are assigned to the case. Not one to sit on the sidelines, Staal convinces his colleagues to follow his lead and pursue a serial killer the media has dubbed Birthday Boy.

Believing he is a soldier of justice, a misguided young man has begun a callous campaign of terror. Damian Knight (Birthday Boy) is convinced of his righteousness and continues his brutal crusade of revenge. As his death count mounts, so does Knight’s courage and he soon turns his anger on a fatigued Staal. Staal and Knight play out a cat and mouse thrill ride that culminates with an epic, one-on-one meeting of cop versus killer.

Potter has created an intriguing police procedural with a strong main character, a terrific supporting cast, and a plot with twists, turns, and plenty of red herrings. I have read many books in this genre featuring a main character that is a bullet-proof, womanizing Neanderthal. However, Potter’s Jack Staal takes a pounding, both physically and emotionally. This is one author who isn’t afraid to show his hero breaking down or making mistakes. Potter has penned a captivating tale filled with plenty of tension and conflict, crisp dialogue and an unrelenting pace. He puts us in the story with vivid descriptions and scene-painting narrative.

I highly recommend Dead of Knight -A Jack Staal Mystery. It is sure to delight fans of Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta or Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch.

Douglas Chandler Graham grew up in rural Virginia close to Lakeside Amusement Park. He worked summers at this park from the age of twelve until he was eighteen when he joined the U.S. Army Air Force. Honorably discharged from the military, he became a street cop in Roanoke, Virginia. Over the years, he has been a bill collector, salesman, and postman. After retiring from the Postal Service, he became a certified private investigator and bodyguard. He has lived in Florida since 2000.

His first book ‘Smoke and Murders’ is a fictionalized story of the murder of the Hodges family as discovered in the small town of Vinton, Virginia, on August 29, 1994. Most of the characters are composites of people known to the author and, except for the murders; most of the situations are made up. Fascinated by the sequence of events as they unfolded, the author could not get the crime off his mind, and over the years, Smoke and Murders evolved. Urged by family and friends to finish the story, the author hopes that it will spark some interest in the real story of a man he believes was falsely convicted.

Sequel to Smoke and Murders (“Three Trailers Down”) Is Here As Promised!

Three Trailers Down by Douglas Chandler Graham is the extended story that began in Smoke and Murders.

Although this may be regarded as a sequel it is a complete novel. After the small town of Vinyard is about to settle down after the murders of an entire family, new problems arise to keep the gossip pot boiling.

The story follows the Lieutenant that ran the Vinyard police department and was caught and fired for multiple criminal offenses.

Intrigue, murders, sex and money drive just about all the characters in Three Trailers Down, at least, the more sophisticated ones. The rest take life as they find it.

Douglas Chandler Graham tried to get dozens of organizations to look at the arrest and trial of Earl Bramblett in the five years after his trial while on death row. All were overloaded with other cases they were working, which should give some indication of justice in America, or the lack thereof. High profile cases give the impression every fact is checked and all evidence is examined. In the dark courtrooms of America “justice” is whatever the court determines, the law be damned. A prime example of this is on the ten year old website allamosa.com.

There was no justice in that trial and it cost Bramblett his life.

Three Trailers Down by Douglas Chandler Graham

Books In Sync Announces Mystery Crime Author Sylvia Dickey Smith

Author’s Bio: Sylvia Dickey Smith’s creative writing focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of middle-aged and older women finding their way and developing a strong identity of their own. Her stories delve into social issues and often point out the tragedies that pious religion and bigotry can wrack on our society. She also allows that there can be good even in the people who are perceived as being narrow-minded zealots.

Her best-selling debut novel, Dance on His Grave, won writing contests before it even reached publication. In it, her protagonist Sidra Smart is no young babe dashing about in a flashy car and solving mysteries between manicures. She’s the fifty year old ex-wife of a preacher who left him and his guilt-and-fear-based religion to find herself. Now, with the death of her brother she’s inherited a detective agency called the Third Eye and that puts her in the position of working as a private investigator. Smith’s fiction embraces the possibility of help from spirits beyond this world without hitting the skeptical reader over the head with it. She skillfully employs humor to delight her readers and create memorable characters. View all of the author’s books.

Smith brings Southeast Texas to life spotlighting the marvelous melting pot of Cajun, Creole, Scots-Irish, African-American, and Dutch descendants who live and work there today. She brings small town America to life with colorful characters and the rich history of the area, along with the delicious food indigenous to that part of the country. Born in Orange, Texas, she grew up in a society where women had few options other than the patriarchal, traditional roles ascribed by men and spent the first half of her life bound by those roles. At mid-life her dogged determination to expand that world for herself and others led her attend university for the first time. Five years later she had earned a B.A. in Sociology and a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology. She holds licenses as a professional counselor and marriage and family therapist, working in that field for several years before taking early retirement. Shortly thereafter she found her passion and her voice in the written word. In 2008 she co-founded the Georgetown Library Writers College in Georgetown, Texas and is on staff teaching writing and marketing classes. She organized the Williamson County Coroners, a critique group that supports and aids other writers. She has written several short stories and essays for anthologies such as A Death in Texas, and The Story That Must Be Told: True Tales of Transformation. She is a member of the Writers’ League of Texas, and serves as president of the Heart of Texas chapter of Sisters in Crime. She is the proud mother of Jim, Jon Mark, Anissa, and Russell, and is married to William M. Smith, Colonel, U. S. Army (Ret.).

Book Three In The Sidra Smart Series:

Sidra Smart’s search for an elusive schooner stirs up ruthless smugglers and the spirits of Privateer Jean Lafitte and Pirate Queen Mary Anne Radcliff. Newly licensed private investigator Sidra Smart reluctantly takes on the pro-bono case of Boo Murphy, a poor, countrified woman accused of murder. When Boo tells her tale of stumbling on the Hotspur, half-buried in a Texas swamp, everyone is convinced she’s found treasure worth millions. As Sidra searches for both the schooner and evidence to clear her client, she battles an unknown enemy, and soon discovers they know their business much better than she knows hers. After several close calls, not only does Sid question her own abilities, she discovers her trusted mentor George Léger is involved in illegal activities that threatens not only their friendship, but also their lives. Even Slider, her half-paranoid, half Chesapeake Bay retriever battles demons from his past as the investigation takes Sidra back to familiar small town territory. Complicated family histories dating back centuries and feuding family relationships muddy the clues and the truth seems as elusive as the spectral schooner. When all seems lost, eighteenth century spirits of infamous Jean Lafitte and voluptuous, swashbuckling pirate-queen Mary Anne Radcliff show up to offer Sid assistance.
